Preparation Monday

Monday, March 17, 2025

Most of my morning was spent finishing up the analysis and grading of our Las Rozas game and starting work on finding a way to successfully defend the Zaragoza Hurricanes next Sunday on the road.

We did need to sit back a second and remember that for many, it was a special day.

INDEED!

I was finally done with the game videos and in need of sustenance so we began a stroll in search of a restaurante open on a midafternoon Monday, not an easy feat as it turned out.

Spring has sprung in Gijón

This would have been a good choice
but we had a specific pulperia in mind

Well this merited further exploration

Jose Martí
1853-1895
Liberator of Cuba

That this monument to Martí is in Spain after he was instrumental in getting Cuba's independence from the Spanish Monarchy is quite interesting.

Asturians are rebellious if nothing else.

Even though their website said that they were open from 11:30 a.m. to midnight today, the pulperia was closed when we got there.

The rustic restaurante next door was open but their cocina was closed for the day, drinks only.

We decided to head downtown on the always reliable #1 bus to a Cuban restaurant whose website said it was open today.

It wasn't.

We finally ended up at the Carling Goal restaurante in the Estadio El Molinón - Enrique Castro Quini complex for a good burger, a pulled pork sandwich and a pair of ice cold IPAs.

I think that this means that firefighters
eat for free at the Carling Goal

Our great team photographer, Felipe, posted some of his fine photos from last Saturday's Las Rozas game today on Facebook.

Here are my favorites.

Our new import player, Geoff Green,
had a splendid game at Wide Receiver

Our Offensive Tackle, Moha, would
have a really bad day

Jimena, the Mariners' Team Trainer

She was incredibly caring and professional while taking care of
Moha's broken leg on the field.

He would eventually be taken by ambulance to three different hospitals in the greater Gijón-Oviedo megalopolis.

Damn.

The Mariners took the field with
ANIMOS!

One last break before . . .

. . . the fateful botched coin toss decision

This Black Demon found this crease
while returning the opening Kickoff

The Las Rozas QB is a good one

Trying to figure out a way to adjust

Mariners on Offense

Calde is one tough WR without
any fear of going over the middle

Punter David taking off for a First
Down after fielding a low snap

QB Spencer Moore . . .

. . . found WR Ruben for this AMAZING,
one handed five yard TD grab!

Calde's PAT was good

Ruben returning a Kickoff
to the 50 yard line

Open field tackles were an
issue for us today

RB Casta hitting the hole

OT Moha pass blocking for QB Spencer

Rober returning a pooch Kickoff

Good get-off . . .

. . . leads to a solid QB Pressure

Now, THAT'S a good tackle!

WR Geoff reeling in a long ball

RB Casta getting to the edge

The Pit

Ruben loose again

CB Walter with the Mariners
first interception of the season

WR Sebas concentrating on what will
be a TD in about another five yards

This TD pass play covered 19 yards in total.

Now we move on to game seven of an eight game season.

Find a way to win!

If you are in Zaragoza next Sunday, we kickoff at 11:00 a.m.

See you there!
