East Coast Travel Day

Thursday, November 8, 2018

It was early to rise as we were off to Sea-Tac Airport to catch an east bound, cross country Alaska Airlines flight to Newark, New Jersey's Liberty Airport.

We were headed to the northeast for what some would call a crazy college football weekend. Mark and I looked at it as a Bucket List weekend seeing the Louisville at Syracuse game Friday night and then the Lafayette at West Point contest on Saturday afternoon.

Lots of driving, all by Mark, would be involved but then again, What Price Glory?

Flying over the Cascade Mountains

Two mugs in one in-flight selfie

The flight went smoothly and once on the ground we got into our Hertz rental car for the drive into New York City as Mark had an evening business meeting with the local representative of a large Spanish construction firm making inroads throughout the USA.

Who knew that NYC has
BIG buildings?

And even BIGGER parking rates?

The meeting after the 18.375% NYC parking tax was added came to well over $50!

And it wasn't even a Rams home game at the L.A. Coliseum.

Mighty Kong is back in town!

I wonder how Colbert responded to
Trump's post midterm election rants today?

After the meeting, we were hungry

This nondescript pizzeria was
located just across 7th Avenue from
Mark's meeting place

We found GREAT thin crust pizza sold by the HUGE slice.

It was a pleasant surprise to a random culinary pick.

Now it was time to drive towards Syracuse in upstate New York.

As we drove out of downtown NYC, I noticed something.

As it turns out, they have lots . . .

 . . . and lots . . .

. . . and lots of plays in NYC!

Here we are nearing Times Square before exiting NYC via a Waze app inspired route that took us out of New York, through New Jersey, into Pennsylvania and finally back into New York on our way towards Syracuse.

It was a bit circuitous but faster given the Friday night traffic pattern in the greater NYC area at the time.

We drove deep into the night until calling a timeout at just after midnight and getting a motel about 90 minutes from the Syracuse campus. We would have plenty of time to get to Syracuse on Friday as the game did not kickoff until 5:00 p.m.

Stay tuned . . .
