Another Week Highlighted by American Football and an American Civil War Re-enactment

Mon.-Tues, Aug. 30-Sept. 7, 2021

The week started off with an impromptu visit to the Buena H.S. campus in Ventura to watch the Bulldogs practice.

The J.V.s were in white . . .

. . . while the Varsity was in black

Beats me, how does the QB tell who is on Offense and Defense?

High pointing the ball on a catch

Or is this an interception?

Team time

The red caps on some of the helmets helped a bit.

It was a good, well organized workout.

On Friday, we returned to Buena H.S.

The Chargers entered the contest
with a perfect 2-0 record

The Chargers had recorded wins over the Channel Islands Raiders (0-2) 43-0 and the Ventura Cougars (0-1) 34-21 in their first two games.

The host Bulldogs were 0-2 on the campaign

Still in search of their first win of the season, Buena had losses to Oak Park (2-0) 22-21 and West Ranch (1-1) 45-31 to start the season.

But first, Mike, Jacob and I
dined in splendor at Ventura's
Marshall's Bodacious BBQ

a Buena PAT kick

It was a good game as Buena stymied an Agoura two-point PAT attempt in the last minute of play to bring home their first victory of 2021 by a final score of 28-27.

On Saturday, the Huskies played
their 2021 season opener at home

It was the FCS ninth ranked Montana Grizzlies (0-0) taking on the Power Five, FBS 20th ranked Washington Huskies (0-0).

Only four FCS teams have ever beaten a top 25 FBS team, what could go wrong?

EVERYTHING *%&$#&?!#*!

The Huskies scored their TD on their first possession of the game.

All downhill offensively after that, the FCS claimed their fifth victory over a Power Five, ranked team.

Shades of Appalachian State over Michigan in 2007.

At least we did not have any
uniform issues like the
INDIANA Hoosiers did in their opener

On to "The Big House" this coming
Saturday to take on 1-0 Michigan

We were planning on going to this game but canceled all of our plans last Friday due to the rise all over the USA of Covid rates.

Meanwhile in EuroBall . . .

The inaugural European League of Football regular season came to a close last weekend.

Hamburg won the ELF North
but limps into the playoffs on
a two game losing streak

Frankfurt dominated the ELF South

Wasting no time, the Conference Finals
will be played this weekend

On Saturday an all German South Conference Championship game will be played with the Cologne Centurions (5-5) going on the road to play the Frankfort Galaxy (9-1).

The Galaxy won both games between the two clubs this season. Frankfort won the game in Cologne on July 11th, 41-20 and took the re-match game at home last Sunday, 45-7.

On Sunday, Poland's Wroclaw Panthers (6-4) will travel to Germany to take on the limping Hamburg Sea Devils (7-3).

The two clubs split their regular season games with both teams oddly winning on the road. On July 24th it was the Hamburg Sea Devils prevailing 26-23. On August 22nd, the Wroclaw Panthers were the better team 30-24.

St. Francis H.S. donated helmets
to the EuroBall cause

Thank you Golden Knights!

The Stings, located near Madrid,
get all six of these donated
helmets for their team

They were shipped via the United States Postal service last Friday and they should have them in Spain in a couple of weeks.

I helped coach the Stings back in the Fall of 2016.

Once a Sting, ALWAYS A STING!

Another team from Spain
reached out to me today

The Mariners' Enrique Prado Alonso contacted me in need of a high character LB for the fast approaching 2022 season.

I sent out feelers to my coaching friends and got an immediate referral from coach Jeff Mills at Iowa State. After a positive thirty minute phone calls with this former Cyclones LB, I'm hoping that the two sides can agree to a deal.

I purposely am not mentioning the young man's name as nothing is final as of yet.

For the first time in two years due to the pandemic, our son Michael was able to attend an American Civil War Re-enactment. He fights for the North.

This one was held in Huntington Beach.

I really think that she would LOVE to fire that cannon!

Unfortunately, Michael died in
the battle with Jacob at his side

It may have been two years since his last re-enactment, but Mike remembered to die in the shade as usual.

Latter the Rebs shot little Jacob too

We MUST avenge them both at the next re-enactment!

From FaceBook today . . .

Those were the days

About eight years ago I was told, damn they grow quickly . . .
