A warm but overcast day in Asturias but we forged on bravely.
Today marked my 45th day living in Gijón, the exact halfway point in this latest EuroBall Adventure.
We were all still a tad off dealing with the fallout from last night's news about our China bound DB.
I was on my way downtown to meet with Team President Kike Prado Alonso to try to come up with both a short and a long term solution to our problems.
Hmmm, a croissant with horns
I was finally at the park where
I was to meet Kike
We walked a few blocks to this spot
According to Kike, they serve the BEST tortilla de patata in all of Gijón.
There was only one way to make a real judgement.
We entered after waiting outside for about ten minutes for two available seats.
Up first were a Nutella cappuccino and a fried chicken filet sandwich while we had to wait for a fresh tortilla de patata to come out of the oven. Both of these items were excellent.
Finally, our tortilla de patata arrived,
INCREDIBLE!
It was warm, creamy and tasted as good as advertised.
One must remember to always trust in Kike's advice and suggestions.
We walked on after our great meal to find a hat shop.
Before leaving for Gijón, my sister Marilyn had a request. Could I bring her back a traditional, black Asturian boina?
I had not seen one for sale as of yet but, of course, Kike knew a spot.
GO HUSKIES!
We found the shop and . . .
. . . bought Marilyn her black boina
Gracias otra vez, Kike!
At this point, Kike needed to get back to work and I needed to do a few last minute things in preparation for Saturday's Mariners-Camioneros game, so we went our separate ways.
I stumbled upon this fun book store . . .
. . . that was chock full of great
old books and vinyl albums
Our team bus is scheduled to depart Gijón at 6:40 a.m. on Saturday and rainy weather was predicted for tonight.
Building upon these two facts, our Head Coach Nacho Valdés opted to cancel tonight's walk-through practice scheduled for 9:00 p.m. at our outdoor practice facility and instead hold the walk-through once we arrive in Madrid tomorrow.
Gijón Mariners (1-3)
at
Coslada Camioneros (2-2)
The Camioneros won our first meeting this season in Gijón an January 11th, 33-17.
It should be a donnybrook
Stay tuned . . .
