I opted for a rare stay at home day as I was still a bit tired from the long trip to Madrid last Saturday.
Truth be told, I also wanted to spend a long time on God's gift to American football . . .
. . . the marvelous HUDL app
First, I needed to finish working on the video of our Defense in our last game against the Osos Rivas.
I saw continued improvement in the area of all out effort but we still breakdown in one-on-one situations, especially in our secondary.
My concern is that these DBs all played good games overall except for one or two plays as individuals. It is not the case of playing with a poor DB or two, we are all fairly consistent but at key moments we were out jumped for 50-50 balls by receivers who were taller or, giving credit where credit is due, the Osos receivers made spectacular catches.
Still, our DB corps keeps coming to practice and working on improving their craft with great regularity and a positive attitude.
What more can a coach ask for really?
After finishing breaking down our game, it was time to move on and start preparing for our next game on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in Madrid again against the Coslada Camioneros (2-2).
In the opening game of the season, the Camioneros won our contest played at Stadio Las Mestas in Gijón, 33-17.
After this upcoming game with Coslada, the Mariners (1-3) will have back-to-back bye weeks before ending the regular season with a tough set of games vs. the Las Rozas Black Demons (4-0), at the Zaragoza Hurricanes (0-4) and vs. the Osos Rivas (3-1) on successive weekends.
KEEP GRINDING MARINERS!
Speaking of the upcoming double bye weeks, I have long planned to use the first bye weekend for a trip to a faraway, exotic spot.
Today I started to do my research.
Marrakech, Morocco
As it turns out, the famed Crosby, Stills & Nash song, "Marrakech Express" does not run through Gijón.
The plane fare is both expensive and lengthy with a required long layover in Barcelona in both directions. Once actually in Marrakech, prices become quite reasonable. I need to keep working on trip options for that weekend.
So True
